BIDDEFORD, Maine -- The University of New England raced out to a 19-5 lead after one quarter and never looked back on its way to an 84-43 victory over Gordon College in a Conference of New England women's basketball game played Wednesday evening (Dec. 3) at Coach Beaudry's Court inside the Harold Alfond Forum.
 UNE extended its 14-point cushion after one to 22 (40-18) at halftime by shooting 52.9 percent (9 of 17) in the second frame. The Nor'easters continued to pour it on after intermission, building the margin to as many as 40 in the final two minutes.
Ella Karavanic and
Paige Meda led a balanced scoring attack for the winners, tallying 13 points apiece. The duo accounted for 17 of UNE's 25 third-quarter points. For Meda, the 13 points represents a season-high.
Hannah Blanchard scored nine points for the Nor'easters. She contributed seven points, five rebounds and a pair of blocks over the opening 20 minutes to help fuel UNE's strong start.
Kaia Anderson played a strong all-around contest, finishing with eight points, six boards and six assists.
Hannah Cook knocked down a pair of treys on her way to eight points, while
Grace Boucher contributed seven on 3-for-4 accuracy from the floor.
Gabby Soter had a team-high eight rebounds and two steals in just 15 minutes of action.
Sami Monighetti knocked down four shots from beyond the arc to notch a team-best 12 points for Fighting Scots (1-7, 1-1 CNE). Leah McGarvey and Isabella Rivera chipped in 10 apiece.
For the evening, UNE shot 46.8 percent (37 of 77) on its field goal attempts and held a 49-38 margin on the glass, while racking up impressive totals of 52 points in the paint and 48 bench points.
The Nor'easters (3-5, 1-0), who snapped a three-game losing streak, will head to Bristol, R.I. on Saturday to take on perennial power Roger Williams University in a 1 p.m. start.
