Statistics

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – After clinging to a 31-28 halftime lead, Buena Vista University pulled away from the University of New England women's basketball team in the third quarter to earn a 90-72 victory on Sunday inside the Ocean Center to close the Daytona Beach Shootout.

Danika Demers drilled seven 3-pointers (7-for-14) on her way to a game-high 22 points for the Beavers (6-7), who outscored the Nor'easters 59-44 during the second half. Bradi Krager, following her scoreless first half, scored 18 in the second half to power BVU's strong finish. Krager also grabbed 12 rebounds to chalk up the game's only double-double.

Maddy Werner scored 15 points in 15 minutes off the bench to lead UNE (3-8). Hannah Blanchard also provided a spark off the bench with a career-high 14 in addition to her team-best eight rebounds, and fellow first-year Paige Meda scored 13 after making her first start.

The Nor'easters trailed by as many as 10 in the second quarter before putting together a 16-5 run to grab their first lead of the game, 28-27, with fewer than two minutes remaining. Demers hit one of her seven triples in the final minute to help the Beavers regain momentum leading into the break.

BVU erupted for 30 points in the third quarter – 12 of which came from Demers – to grow its lead as large as 22, which the Nor'easters trimmed to 14 (61-47) to begin the fourth.

Despite UNE putting together its best offensive quarter of the day, BVU's efficiency continued, with the Beavers going 10-for-15 from the field over the final 10 minutes to keep the game out of the Nor'easters' reach. BVU finished better than 40 percent from the floor (29-for-69), and was 11-for-32 from deep.

Sunday marked the final non-conference game of the season for UNE, which is back in action at home on Saturday, Jan. 3 to host Nichols at 1 p.m.
