DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – No. 8 Washington and Lee University pulled away from the University of New England women's basketball team during the second quarter on Saturday in the Ocean Center to come away with a 68-33 victory on the opening day of the Daytona Beach Shootout.

The unbeaten Generals (9-0) scored a combined 45 points between the second and third quarters, shooting at least 50 percent from the floor in both frames, to comfortably hike their lead above 30 points during the second half.

Mary Schleusner put up a 15-point, 15-rebound double-double in just 22 minutes. Quinn McGuinness and Elka Prechel scored nine apiece, and Sarah Zimmerman contributed six points and eight rebounds. Allie Dwyer led the Nor'easters (3-7) with seven points off the bench.

Despite a cold shooting start, UNE led late in the first quarter before Washington and Lee put together a 20-2 run between the waning moments of the first and the opening minutes of the second to begin building a commanding lead. The Generals led by 19 (37-18) at halftime and stretched their lead to 33 (59-26) by the end of the third quarter.
