CASTINE, Maine -- The University of New England placed four players in double figures on its way to a 77-70 win over Maine Maritime Academy in a season-opening men's basketball game played Saturday (Nov. 8) at Margaret Chase Smith Gymnasium.

Adrian Torres had a monster second half to finish with 17 points, eight rebounds, eight assists and three steals in 39 minutes of action to help lead the Nor'easters to victory.
Adam Lux contributed 17 points, seven boards and four assists.
Jaelen Jackson added 13 points, five caroms and four assists, while
Kha Cao Ra James finished with 12 points, nine rebounds and three steals.Â
The host Mariners led for the majority of the opening half, but the Nor'easters kept it close in the opening frame and found themselves tied at 41 heading into intermission.Â
After a Marcus Schade dunk gave Maine Maritime its final lead (64-63) with 5:46 remaining, play went back-and-forth over the next few minutes. Leading by one (69-68) with just over three minutes on the clock, UNE would score eight of the final 10 points to close out the victory.Â
Torres scored 12 points and dished out six assists after halftime to key the Nor'easters' triumph. James' 12 points came on a 6-of-9 performance from the floor.
Schade and Jack Banks tallied 19 points apiece to lead all players. Aaron Pensel had 11 points, nine rebounds and four blocked shots for the Mariners.Â
UNE returns to action Wednesday (Nov. 12) with a 7:30 p.m. road contest at the University of Southern Maine.
