Despite
Adam Lux's game-high 24-point effort, UNE (1-3) was unable to continue its momentum early in the second half, having turned a 40-30 deficit into a 41-40 edge. The Raiders (3-2) responded to that 11-0 Nor'easter spurt with a 15-2 run and maintained a lead of at least two possessions down the stretch.
Â
20 of Lux's 24 points came in the second half, and the senior also pulled down a team-best nine rebounds. Rivier's balanced scoring was led by Robenson Baguidy with 21, along with Steph Barnes and Izaiah Shaw-Glen with 19 and 16, respectively. Shaw-Glen grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds to complete the double-double. Baguidy also stuffed the stat sheet with seven assists.
Â
The Raiders shot an even 50 percent from deep (9-for-18) on the night, and were nearly 60 percent from the field during the second half (16-for-27) while holding UNE's push. The Nor'easters' shooting improved during the second half, highlighted by five triples.
Â
Despite the loss, UNE had the advantage on the glass, 37-32. In addition to Lux's team-best effort,
Jaelen Jackson came up with eight rebounds and
Kha Cao Ra James had seven. The Nor'easters had nine second-chance points to Rivier's two.
Â
UNE trailed by as many as 13 during the first half, but salvaged a 35-28 halftime deficit before outscoring Rivier 13-5 over the opening five minutes of the second half to gain its first lead since the 12-minute mark of the first. Baguidy scored 11 of his 21 points during the Raiders' resurgent second-half run that proved to the backbreaker for the Nor'easters.
