BIDDEFORD, Maine – Bowdoin created separation in the first half and maintained a comfortable lead down the stretch in the University of New England's 2025-26 home opener to defeat the Nor'easters by a final tally of 82-59 Friday night on Coach Beaudry's Court inside the Harold Alfond Forum.
UNE (1-2) donned special St. Francis College throwback uniforms during Friday's game to honor legendary head coach Jim Beaudry, and the program's St. Francis roots.
Jackson Bleecker led the charge offensively for the Polar Bears (1-0) with a game-high 24 points. He was joined in double figures by Ray Cuevas and Kevin Reeves. Nolan Bessire owned the glass with 11 rebounds, helping Bowdoin claim that category, 50-40.
Jaelen Jackson's 14 first-half points helped UNE remain within striking distance for much of the first half. He finished the night with 19 points and eight boards – both team highs.
Adam Lux scored 12, and
Adrian Torres and
Gabe Galarraga both cracked double figures as well for the balanced Nor'easter attack.
Bowdoin warmed up from distance in the second half, going 6-for-12 after a 4-for-19 showing in the first half, to extend its lead beyond 20 points shortly after halftime. UNE made a 13-3 run, capped off by
Julius Silva's triple with 13 minutes remaining to cut the deficit to 55-44, but that was answered by a 13-0 run by the visitors to create an insurmountable lead.
The Nor'easters are back in action on Coach Beaudry's Court Tuesday, Nov. 18 at 7 p.m. when they host Rivier.
