BIDDEFORD, Maine – Anastasia Nerney's goal in the 83rd minute – her second of the game – lifted Hartford over the University of New England women's soccer team, 2-1, in Wednesday afternoon's Conference of New England clash on Hazard Field.
After a scoreless first half, a three-goal second half saw UNE (8-3-2, 2-1-1) surrender the opening goal in the 57th minute before
Gillian McGee netted the equalizer in the 72nd. The Hawks (8-2-2, 3-2-0) recorded four of their five total shots on goal after seeing their initial lead disappear late in the second half.
The Nor'easters largely owned possession against the defending CNE champion, outshooting Hartford 20-11 in total shots, and 7-5 in shots on goal.
McGee's tally was her fourth of the season, and the first-year now has a goal in three of UNE's last five games.
Hawks' goalkeeper Sejal Johnson's first-half, which included four saves, was key while the visitors were unable to log a shot on goal as the Nor'easters controlled play, racking up 12 total shots. UNE's
