BEVERLY, Mass. –
Charlotte Jessuck's goal in the 33rd minute of Saturday afternoon's Conference of New England matchup at Hempstead Stadium was enough to give the University of New England a 1-0 women's soccer victory over Endicott.
The Nor'easters' triumph was backstopped by
Haley Coombs, who made six saves to notch her second shutout of the season.
UNE (9-3-2, 3-1-1) grabbed the lead late in the first half when Jessuck redirected fellow first-year
Jill Hodgson's corner kick through traffic and into the back of the net. Hodgson now has a team-best six assists on the year, and Jessuck's tally was her second of the season.
Despite the loss, Endicott (6-7-1, 3-3-0) had the edge in shots on goal, 6-3, and claimed a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks. Two of those opportunities came in the game's final six minutes, but came up empty against a stingy Nor'easter defense that has blanked six different opponents this season.
The Nor'easters return home on Tuesday, October 14, hosting Suffolk at 7 p.m.
