DUDLEY, Mass. -- The University of New England women's volleyball team ripped off a 25-9 4th set to close out a 3-1 Conference of New England triumph (14-25, 25-17, 25-15, 25-9) at Nichols College on Saturday (Oct. 4).
The Nor'easters (8-7, 2-1 CNE) displayed a balanced attack to overcome the slow start, led by 10 kills apiece from
Ellijah Hanley and
Chloe Miracle.
Hannah Nowell contributed nine and
Kailyn Reilly seven, while the eight by
Kendall Gallaugher came with zero errors and a .533 hitting percentage.
Hayley Shult and
Abby Zamora went for 24 and 13 assists, respectively.
Gallaugher also dropped in a match-high three service aces and had a hand in three blocks; Nowell topped all players with parts of four rejections.
Defensively,
Kelsey Bradshaw collected 23 digs. Hanley (17), Miracle (17), and Zamora (10) all wound up with double-doubles after the efforts on the back end.
For the Bison (6-11, 1-2), Kya Burdier had 13 kills. Alyssa Morse tallied 10 kills to go with 19 digs, while Ruby St. Onge registered 19 assists along with 10 digs. Mairead Frost and Elizabeth Mullen combined for another 35 digs.
In the 2nd, Nichols cut into a 15-8 deficit to get within two (16-14), but a kill by Reilly and block from Reilly and Miracle restored order as the Nor'easters rattled off a 9-3 stretch to level the match. Nine unanswered in the middle of the 3rd -- spurred by two kills from both Gallaugher and Miracle -- proved to be the difference (17-7) to get the visitors in front on the overall scoreboard. Then, in the 4th, UNE stormed to the first seven points and soon assembled a commanding 18-3 cushion.
The Nor'easters are back in Biddeford on Wednesday to entertain Suffolk University.
