BIDDEFORD, Maine – The University of New England women's soccer team needed just 88 seconds to score its first goal on Saturday afternoon against Thomas, and eventually ran away with a 9-0 nonconference victory in front of its home crowd at Hazard Field.
Nine goals are the most by the Nor'easters in a single game since 2001, when UNE poured 11 on Regis (Sept. 26, 2001).
Kylie Curtin was the only Nor'easter with multiple tallies as eight different players entered the scoring column during a game that featured five first-half goals and four in the second.
Emily Talbot,
Sophie Martinelli,
Charlotte Jessuck and
Julia Klinkhamer each found the back of the net for the first time in their respective collegiate careers.
Karley Belisle, in addition to a goal, picked up two assists to surpass 50 career points.
UNE (8-2-2) dominated possession and overwhelmed Thomas (3-9-1) with 20 shots on goal, all while holding the Terriers without a shot.
Curtin had two goals by the completion of the 17th minute, the latter of which handed the Nor'easters a commanding 3-0 lead
(Watch 1/Watch 2).
Brooke Pierotti's goal in the 10th minute was sandwiched between those two tallies
(Watch). Talbot scored in the 39th
(Watch) and Martinelli rounded out the first-half onslaught in the 41st
(Watch).
Belisle's goal opened the second-half scoring in the 59th minute
(Watch), and
Marah Walton's score in the 76th
(Watch) was one of three Nor'easter goals in an 11-minute span that also included goals from Jessuck
(Watch) and Klinkhamer
(Watch).
Unbeaten in its last five games, and nine of the last 10, UNE returns to Conference of New England action on Wednesday, Oct. 8, hosting defending CNE champion Hartford at 2 p.m.
