Statistics

PLYMOUTH, N.H. -- Plymouth State University raced out to a nine-point advantage in the deciding set on the way to securing a 3-2 women's volleyball decision (20-25, 25-18, 25-20, 25-27, 15-5) over the University of New England at Foley Gym on Wednesday (Oct. 29).

After seeing the Nor'easters (11-8) climb out of a 21-14 hole in the 4th to even the overall match, the Panthers (18-6) turned in four of their 10 blocks and received a pair of aces from Danielle Emerson to take control at 12-3 in the 5th.

UNE led for the entirety of the 1st, aided by five of the team's nine aces. Annalyn Cahill came alive in the 2nd and 3rd periods for PSU, notching 13 of her match-best 19 kills to flip the hosts in front.

The Nor'easters hit .273 and had five of their 11 blocks in the 4th to get back level. Kendall Gallaugher sent down a kill and had a hand in two rejections during an 8-0 run to give UNE a 22-21 edge, but the visitors still faced a match point-against at 23-24 and 24-25. An Ellijah Hanley kill erased the first, and a service error negated the second, before another by Hanley and a stuff from Kailyn Reilly and Hayley Shult forced the winner-take-all session.

For Plymouth State, after Cahill, Ella Koelb went for 11 kills and 27 assists. Sya McKay added nine kills and a couple of solo blocks. In addition to six aces, Emerson put up 16 assists and 13 digs. Ava Duymazlar dropped in five aces to go with 19 digs, while Veronika Castro Rodriguez paced the back-line effort with 20 digs.

UNE was guided by 15 kills from Chloe Miracle and 12 by Hannah Nowell, who then also registered 13 and 16 digs, respectively. Hanley finished with 10 kills, Reilly supplied two solo blocks, and Gallaugher topped all players with parts of six blocks. Shult collected 40 assists and 22 digs. The defense was led by Kelsey Bradshaw with 24 digs, and Lylah Shumway tacked on 15 more.

The Nor'easters head to Roger Williams University for a Conference of New England (CNE) date on Saturday.
