BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Five different players scored for the University of New England women's soccer team, as the Nor'easters breezed by Gordon College for a 5-0 shutout in the Conference of New England regular-season finale Tuesday afternoon (Oct. 28) at Blue Storm Stadium.
Emily Talbot got the attack going early, winning a battle at the top of the box and curling a low shot just inside the near post for her third goal in the last two matches (
Watch). Her sixth marker of the season came in the 13th minute.
UNE doubled its advantage less than four minutes later when Talbot slotted a beautiful pass to
Brooke Pierotti, who took one touch and drilled a high shot into the far corner of the goal (

The Nor'easters tallied one more time in the opening half on a goal by
Karley Belisle in the 34th minute. Belisle collected a cross from
Ari Veneto and chipped a shot just over Gordon goalkeeper Emily Bengston, who had challenged off the goal line (

The lead swelled to 4-0 in the 62nd minute when
Jill Hodgson lobbed a high shot from 25 yards just over Bengston's reach (

Amy Forrest dribbled up the middle of the field and found Hodgson to set up the goal.Â
Julia Klinkhamer capped off the scoring with just under two minutes remaining, collecting a failed Gordon clearing attempt and rocketing a high shot that grazed the left post and found the back of the net (

UNE dominated play throughout, leading in shots (34-4) and corner kicks (3-0). Starter
Haley Coombs played the first 75 minutes in goal and recorded one save before giving way to
Anna Flaherty.
Bengston came up with nine stops for the Fighting Scots, who concluded their season at 4-10-4 (2-5-3 CNE).
The Nor'easters will take a 12-4-3 mark (6-2-2 CNE) into postseason play. The CNE Tournament gets underway Saturday, with pairings and game times to be announced Wednesday evening.
