Emily Talbot broke a scoreless tie in the 72nd minute of Saturday night's 2025 Conference of England (CNE) Women's Soccer Championship First Round matchup to help lead No. 4 seed University of New England past No. 5 seed Roger Williams University, 2-0, at Blue Storm Stadium.
With the victory, the Nor'easters (13-4-3) advance to Wednesday's semifinal at No. 1 Hartford (
Championship Central). UNE currently holds a four-game win streak in which it has outscored opponents 16-0.
UNE held a 16-4 advantage in total shots, plus a 7-2 edge in shots on goal, but it wasn't until the 72nd minute that the Nor'easters were able to post the game's opening tally.
Jill Hodgson fed
Karley Belisle, who made a centering pass to Talbot before the first-year tapped one home from just a few yards out (

Belisle and Talbot traded places in the 81st minute, with Belisle tacking on an insurance goal after receiving Talbot's pass, bouncing a shot off the left post and in to double the Nor'easters' advantage (

Coco Marrelli made five saves for the Hawks (10-3-6), while
Haley Coombs needed just two saves to pick up the postseason shutout.
UNE's regular season meeting with Hartford was a nail-biter, with the Hawks scoring the game-winner in the 84th minute on Oct. 8 in Biddeford. Hartford won the 2024 Conference of New England Women's Soccer Championship.
