JWU takes tight three-set CNE win over UNE

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Johnson & Wales University fended off the University of New England to take a 3-0 victory (25-23, 25-22, 25-22) in Conference of New England women's volleyball action Saturday afternoon (Oct. 11) at the Wildcat Center.

Johnson & Wales improved its record to 12-6 overall and 3-2 in conference play. In its inaugural season in the CNE, the Wildcats had won 20 or more matches in eight of the previous nine seasons as a member of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC).

Vivi Mansfield racked up 13 kills to pace the JWU attack and lead all players in that category. Naveah Arnold and Brooke Caquelin each put down nine balls in support of the Wildcats' strong .248 attack percentage. Setter Sophia Santacroce piled up 38 assists to fuel the offense.

Ellijah Hanley recorded a team-high 11 kills for the Nor'easters (9-8, 3-2), who saw their four-game win streak come to an end. Hannah Nowell registered an attack percentage of .300 or higher for the third straight outing, finishing with eight kills and just one error on 21 swings (.333). Kendall Gallaugher pitched in with six kills. Hayley Shult was credited with 20 assists, and Kelsey Bradshaw dug out 15 balls to lead the squad. Hanley (14) and Chloe Miracle (13) combined with Bradshaw to account for 42 of the Nor'easters' 60 digs. Kailyn Reilly had three total blocks to pace all players.

The Nor'easters return to action Wednesday (Oct. 15) with a 6 p.m. non-conference match at Saint Joseph's College of Maine.
