GORHAM, Maine -- Trailing 1-0 early in the contest, the University of Southern Maine received a pair of goals from Liam Conneely on its way to a 3-1 non-conference men's soccer win over the University of New England Saturday afternoon (Sept. 7) at Hannaford Field.
UNE (1-2-1) got on the scoreboard in the opening stage of the contest when
Matthew Dewhurst notched his first career goal. Dewhurst's tally came off a feed from
Corbin Schreindorfer 12:26 into the match.
Conneely drew the Huskies even 15 minutes later with an unassisted goal, then gave Southern Maine the lead for good early in the second half when he converted a pass from Jack Brady. The go-ahead tally came at the 56:35 mark.
An unassisted goal by Alex Graver with 60:00 elapsed provided USM (1-1-2) with a two-goal advantage, a lead that would stand up the rest of the way.
Gabe Wagner and Aldo Bryant split time in goal and combined for one save for the Huskies, who held a 19-7 advantage in shots on the day.
UNE's
Ollie Hammond had a save in the first half before giving way to
Triston O'Hagan, who registered three after intermission.
The Nor'easters return to the pitch Tuesday (Sept. 10) when they host Bates College in a 7 p.m. start at Barbara J. Hazard Field.
