BIDDEFORD, Maine --
Tori Keyes tallied a pair of first-half goals, as the University of New England Nor'easters shut out visiting Emerson College, 3-0, in a non-conference women's soccer match played Wednesday afternoon (Sept. 25) at Barbara J. Hazard Field.
UNE, which has now won five of its last six starts, improved to 6-3-0 on the season while the Lions dropped to 1-4-3.
Keyes got the Nor'easters on the scoreboard early, taking a pass from
Lizzie Frattaroli and sliding a low shot inside the right post from the top of the goal area just 8:13 into the contest (
Watch).
Brooke Pierotti started the scoring play and was credited with a second assist.Â
Keyes doubled UNE's lead in the 23rd minute after an Emerson miscue on an attempted clear.
Kylie Curtin came up with the ball and found Keyes, who took a few touches and slotted a shot from the middle of the box inside the left post (
Watch).
The Nor'easters extended their lead to 3-0 in the 57th minute on the first career goal by
Amy Hatfield. Off a set piece from the left side, Frattaroli found Hatfield open in the middle of the box and her one-timer eluded Emerson's sprawling goalkeeper and found the back of the net.Â
Â
UNE goalkeeper
Anna Flaherty made the margin stand up, coming up with a pair of brilliant saves in the second half before giving way to
Haley Coombs for the final 19:10. The first came on a Emma Brady point-blank shot in the 63rd minute (
Watch) and the second was a diving stop of a blast by Lauren Carlson in the 71st minute (
Watch).
Keyes'Â pair of markers moved her into sixth place on UNE's career list for both goals scored (29) and points (75).
UNE controlled the action for the better portion of the match, leading 17-5 in shots and 8-2 with those on-target.
The Nor'easters return to play Saturday (Sept. 28) taking on Conference of New England foe Suffolk University in a noon road contest.Â
