DUDLEY, Mass. --
Bruno Correia scored in the 58th minute to break a 1-1 tie, as the University of New England men's soccer team opened Conference of New England (CNE) play with a 2-1 road win at Nichols College on Saturday afternoon (Sept. 21).
After neither team was able to score in the first half,
Nick Reffel got the Nor'easters on the board just 3:22 into the second when he slotted a low shot from 25 yards out just inside the left post.
Mattie Calver set-up the goal from the midfield.
Nichols responded six minutes later as Asyaish Chavez converted a feed from Josiah Phillips to knot the score at 1-all.
Correia's game-winner came off a long, bending shot from nearly 30 yards out that slid just under the crossbar.Â
UNE, which trailed 27-10 in shots for the afternoon, withstood a 19-shot barrage from the Bison after halftime.
Triston O'Hagan finished with a season-best 12 saves to record the win.Â
Franco Barreto Santana had five stops for Nichols, which fell to 3-4-0 overall (0-1-0 CNE).
The Nor'easters (2-3-2, 1-0-0 CNE) will return to action Tuesday (Sept. 24) with a 4 p.m. road match at Fitchburg State University.
