BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- For the first time in 15 meetings, the University of New England women's volleyball team beat Salve Regina University on Saturday afternoon (Sep.14), securing a 3-0 sweep (25-19, 25-19, 25-14) in a neutral match at the Tinlsey Center on the campus of Bridgewater State University.
Ellijah Hanley and
Hannah Nowell paced the attack with 13 and 11 kills, respectively.
Two years removed from being conference foes, the Nor'easters (7-0) had all the answers versus SRU (0-6). UNE, which had captured six of the first seven all-time matches with the Seahawks, hadn't found the same kind of success since 2009.
The Nor'easters continue their unbeaten start to the season, which is now the longest run of perfection in known program records (at least 27 years).
Hanley hit .300 and Nowell connected at a .667 clip for UNE, which received 26 assists from
Kassidy Bradshaw. Hanley and Bradshaw also notched double-doubles with 10 digs apiece.
Addie Miller led the defensive effort with 12 digs, and
Kailyn Reilly added 10 more, while topping the Nor'easters with four service aces.
Taressa Szewczyk and
Kelsey Bradshaw each contributed seven digs.
For Salve Regina, Lauren Hoyle had nine kills. Lucy Swanson, who tallied seven kills, and Lily Dobbins, both picked up 13 digs.
