KEENE, N.H. –
Lizzie Frattaroli's go-ahead goal in the 32nd minute proved to be the difference maker in the University of New England women's soccer team's 2-1 victory at Keene State on Saturday afternoon.
After the Owls (3-3-0) grabbed a 1-0 lead in the seventh minute,
Lindsey Butler tallied the equalizer in the 23rd minute to set the stage for Frattaroli to score what would go down as the game winner for the Nor'easters (4-2-0) less than 10 minutes later.
UNE goalkeeper
Anna Flaherty recorded each of her five total saves after Frattaroli's goal to preserve the 2-1 lead. The Nor'easters earned an 11-6 edge in shots on goal, and a 14-10 advantage in total shots.
With UNE trailing early, Butler ran down a well-placed pass from
Karley Belisle before finishing from 10 yards out to score her first goal of the season.
Frattaroli's fifth goal of the season, and the deciding factor in Saturday's match, came after a pass from
Tori Keyes and a smooth finish from the top-right corner of the goal area.
Flaherty answered the call in the second half with back-to-back saves starting in the 64th minute, and later, her final save of the afternoon in the 83rd minute. Keene State keeper Riley Andriski came up with five saves during the second frame to keep the Owls within striking distance.
The Nor'easters are back in action, again on the road, at Bates on Tuesday, Sept. 17 for an 8 p.m. kickoff.
