BIDDEFORD, Maine – Opening the 2024 season at home on Friday evening, the University of New England women's soccer team rolled to a 5-0 victory over Saint Joseph's (Maine). The Nor'easters used four first half goals, including two from Lizzie Frattaroli, while the Monks mustered just one shot on goal.

In addition to Frattaroli's two goals, the senior also registered two assists for a career-best six points -- the most by a UNE player since 2021. Kylie Curtin, Morgan Diefenbach and Tori Keyes each found the back of the net for the Nor'easters (1-0) as well. Keyes, the reigning Conference of New England Player of the Year, accounted for the lone goal of the second half after tallying two assists in the first. Ashlyn Guerette, who logged 90 minutes in-goal for the Monks (0-1), was peppered with 18 shots on goal from UNE.

Curtin's goal, assisted by both Karley Belisle and Keyes, opened the scoring in the sixth minute [Watch] before UNE stretched the lead to 2-0 on a Frattaroli penalty kick fewer than two minutes later.

Diefenbach tacked on another for the Nor'easters during the 13th minute [Watch], and it was another Frattaroli tally in the 19th minute that capped off the first-half barrage [Watch].

Friday evening's contest, which began at Hazard Field, moved to Blue Storm Stadium for the second half. On a new pitch, UNE increased the lead to 5-0 in the 77th minute with Keyes' goal on a set-up from Frattaroli [Watch].

Goalkeeper Anna Flaherty logged just over 82 minutes for UNE, and stopped the Monks' lone on-target shot, before first-year Haley Coombs entered.

Friday's game marked Frattaroli's third career multi-goal performance, with the most recent being the 2023 season opener, which was also played against Saint Joseph's. UNE has won each of its last four meetings with the Monks, all of which were season openers.

The Nor'easters will ride the momentum of a season-opening victory into Sunday's (Sept. 1) game at Maine Maritime, scheduled for 1 p.m.
