Statistics

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Matt Hemmert scored six times to power the Roger Williams University Hawks to a 19-10 Commonwealth Coast Conference men's lacrosse victory over the University of New England on a breezy Saturday afternoon (Mar. 30) at Blue Bolt Field.

Winners of seven consecutive games, the Hawks improved to 9-2 overall and 2-0 in conference play. UNE fell to 3-8 (0-2 CCC).

Eric Brooks and Matt Halpin each went for three goals for Roger Williams, which also received a goal apiece from seven different players. Brooks and Halpin also combined for six assists on the day.

Sam McGregor finished with six points (4 goals, 2 assists) to lead the way for the Nor'easters. Stephen Fogarty chipped in with a pair of markers.

Leaders from start-to-finish, the visitors scored three times in the opening 4:13 to seize control. The teams would then swap goals to complete the first-quarter scoring as RWU led 4-1 after one.

The Hawks opened the second frame by scoring four of the first five goals to open up an 8-2 cushion. McGregor and Collin Jackson scored just 23 seconds apart late in the quarter to cut the deficit to four (8-4), but the Nor'easters were unable to get any closer than that margin the remainder of the contest.

RWU goalkeeper Aaron D'Aversa had seven saves and collected a team-best five ground balls. Kyle Zirn was credited with four caused turnovers. The Hawks were efficient in man-up situations, converting 4 of 7 opportunities.

For UNE, Ben Gowell won 17 of 31 faceoffs and came up with a game-high 10 ground balls. Evan Hazard and Connor Gaughan combined for 12 stops between the pipes.

The Nor'easters will look to halt a three-game losing skid Tuesday (April 2) when they head to Curry College for a 7 p.m. tilt.
