Statistics

SPARKS GLENCOE, Md. -- Six unanswered goals and seven total in the opening period fueled the University of New England in an 11-8 men's lacrosse triumph over New England College at Tierney Field at USA Lacrosse Headquarters on Monday (Mar. 11).

With two wins in three days, the Nor'easters improve to 3-5 on the season. The Pilgrims remain winless in three outings.

After yielding the opening score to NEC, Shea Fogarty, Collin Jackson, and Stephen Fogarty each found the back of the net twice over an eight-minute span to vault UNE ahead, 6-1. The Pilgrims cut the margin from four to two during the 2nd quarter to make it 8-6 at the half.

Jackson was the first to strike after the break (9-6), and the teams alternated in the limited scoring the rest of the way. David Wilcox made it 10-7 later in the 3rd, and Shea notched the only goal of the 4th with 2:06 remaining to seal it for the Nor'easters.

Stephen registered a team-high four points for UNE, ending with a hat trick to match Jackson and Shea. Andrew Lawrence dished out three assists, and Elijah Bryan generated the other score.

Ben Gowell controlled the restarts by claiming 19-of-22 faceoffs and grabbing 13 ground balls. Nate Hunt -- who contributed one assist -- and Chris Gottlieb both tallied three caused turnovers, while Evan Hazard posted 10 saves to backstop the victory.

For NEC, Henri Pfeifle put up three goals and four assists. Jackson Kain had four caused turnovers and five ground balls. Hunter Sutcliffe made eight saves in nearly three quarters of action.

The Nor'easters, who defeated NEC on the same field last season, have now won four straight in the recent series.

UNE will be idle for over one week, set to resume competition back at home against the University of Massachusetts-Boston on March 20 (4 p.m.).
