WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- The No.13 University of New England men's ice hockey team struck for three goals in the final period to separate from Western New England University and register a 4-0 Conference of New England (CNE) victory at the Olympia Ice Center on Friday (Nov. 8). Jayden Price and Cam Bergeman led the way with four and three points, respectively.

Back inside the USCHO Top 15 Poll for the first time in eight releases after knocking off nationally-ranked Plymouth State University, the Nor'easters (2-0, 1-0 CNE) received a 19 saves from rookie Stefan Carney to keep the Golden Bears (1-2, 0-1) off the board. It is the first time in program history that UNE has started a year with consecutive shutouts.

Following a scoreless 1st period in which the visitors had an 18-4 edge in shots, Bergeman and Price set up a score by Anthony Sciucco just 73 seconds into the 2nd, and that 1-0 margin held through 40 minutes.

Western New England and netminder Anthony Aureliano could only keep UNE relatively in check for so long, though, and Nor'easters netted two quick ones at the beginning of the 3rd to create some distance. Bergeman found the back of the cage for the second time on the season, with the help of Price, at the 1:19 mark, and then a power-play tally by Dominic Murphy 1:41 later made it 3-0. It was the team-leading third goal for Murphy, off assists credited to Price and Drew Olivieri.

Price got one of his own down the stretch -- and the junior established a new career best for points in the process -- with assists from Bergeman and David Wilcox.

Will Spitzer supported the defensive effort with a team-high three blocked shots. Carney is just the second UNE goalie ever to post a shutout in his debut, joining current senior, Joey Stanizzi, who did it during the 2022-23 season.

Aureliano wound up with 51 stops for the Golden Bears, who make the trip to Biddeford on Saturday (7 p.m.) to complete the weekend series between the squads.
