#13 UNE romps to 7-0 win over Golden Bears

Statistics

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- The University of New England received goals from seven different players and got a 19-save clean sheet out of Joey Stanizzi and the defense, as the No.13 Nor'easters cruised to a 7-0 Conference of New England (CNE) victory over Western New England University at the Harold Alfond Forum on Saturday night (Nov. 9).

For the third time in as many outings, UNE (3-0, 2-0 CNE) held its opponent scoreless, making it the first time in program history with three consecutive shutouts. Stanizzi is up over 145 minutes without yielding a goal -- including his last action of 2023-24 -- which is the third-longest streak by Nor'easter netminders.

Cam Bergeman continued a very productive start to his career, netting the only tally of the 1st period for the hosts. UNE deposited four goals in the 2nd frame, including the first collegiate marker by Nick Marino to make it 2-0. Mike Tersoni, Dominic Murphy, and Ryan Kuzmich piled on to put the Nor'easters ahead by five at the second intermission.

For Bergeman and Murphy, they are just the second and third players at UNE to ever score in their first three appearances of a season, joining Tyler Fleurent (3 games) from all the way back in 2011-12.

A pair of short-handed goals rounded out the scoring in the 3rd, as Anthony Sciucco struck just 13 seconds into the frame and Drew Olivieri added an unassisted one later on.

Noah Szretter had a team-high three points and shared the lead in blocked shots (2) with Murphy. Murphy, Kuzmich, and Sciucco each notched an assist to go with their scores, while two assists for Jacob Pellerin made five players with multiple points.

Under siege all night on the other end of the ice, starter Anthony Aureliano and Logan Palmer essentially split times and combined for 35 saves for the Golden Bears (1-3, 0-2).

The Nor'easters will now prepare to welcome in CNE preseason favorite, Endicott College, on Friday (7 p.m.).
