WEST HARTFORD, Conn. --
Ellijah Hanley paced a balanced attack with 11 kills, as the University of New England breezed to a 3-0 straight-set road win over the University of Hartford in a Conference of New England (CNE) women's volleyball match Saturday afternoon (Nov. 2). Set scores were 25-19, 25-19 and 25-11.
The triumph was a key one for the Nor'easters, lifting UNE (18-5, 4-3 CNE) ahead of Hartford, Gordon and Western New England in the conference standings. The Nor'easters sit in a tie with Suffolk for the fourth slot in the CNE with two regular-season matches remaining on the docket.
Trailing 10-9 in the opening set, UNE went on to tally 10 of the next 14 points to open up a 19-14 advantage. The host Hawks closed to within two (20-18) before committing three attack errors the rest of the way in the frame to fall, 25-19.
The Nor'easters led from start-to-finish in both the second and third sets to breeze the rest of the way.
Viktoria Pavlyuk contributed nine kills, nine digs and three services aces for UNE, while
Hannah Nowell went for seven kills, eight digs and four blocks (three solo).
Kendall Gallaugher hit an efficient .556 for the afternoon (5-0-9). Rookie setter
Hayley Shult handed out 23 assists to aid in the victory, and
Kelsey Bradshaw was credited with eight digs from the back row.
Jordan Murphy had a team-best eight kills for Hartford, which dipped to 9-11 overall and 3-4 in CNE play.
The Nor'easters are back at it Wednesday (Nov. 6) when they play a pivotal conference match at defending champion Wentworth Institute of Technology (15-10, 5-2 CNE).
