BOSTON -- Kate McLane and Emma Sanders combined for 26 kills against just six errors to lead Wentworth Institute of Technology past the University of New England, 3-0 (25-14, 25-14, 25-12), in Conference of New England (CNE) women's volleyball action at Tansey Gymnasium on Wednesday (Nov. 6).
The Leopards (16-10, 6-2 CNE) received 15 winners and four service aces from McLane, while Sanders notched 11 kills with a .476 hitting percentage. Riley Schoonmaker had six kills in 12 error-less swings, and Olivia Vaughn totaled 31 assists. Amanda Zweifler guided the defensive effort with 11 digs.
Despite the setback, the Nor'easters (18-6, 4-4) still hold sixth place in the conference standings with one date left in the regular season. UNE will entertain Roger Williams University (6-2 CNE) on Saturday at 1 p.m.
The visitors got six kills apiece out of
Viktoria Pavlyuk and
Ellijah Hanley, and
Hayley Shult had 12 assists. On the back line,
Kelsey Bradshaw picked up nine digs and Pavlyuk added seven more.
WIT broke away from a 5-all opening frame with eight unanswered points and never looked back. Six in-a-row established a 10-3 lead in the 2nd, and the hosts went on an 8-1 run during the initial portion of the 3rd to take control at 13-4.
