BANGOR, Maine -- The University of New England and Husson University men's soccer teams each scored first-half goals, as the two squads came away with a 1-1 tie in non-conference action Tuesday night (Oct. 8) at Boucher Field.
The host Eagles (5-4-2) got on the scoreboard first when Florian Gasser converted a penalty just 6:47 into the contest. UNE was whistled for a hand ball, and Gasser drove a low shot to the left side of the goal to make good on the opportunity.
UNE (4-5-3) drew even late in the first half off a corner kick. After the initial service from the right side, a Husson defender headed the ball in an attempt to clear the box, but
Corbin Schreindorfer stepped in and delivered a left-footed volley just inside the right post for his first career goal.
The Nor'easters had a chance to go home victorious inside the final minute of the contest, but Husson keeper Samuel Bermudez came off his line to deny a late UNE scoring bid with 20 seconds remaining.
Husson led 13-6 overall in shots but held a slim margin (5-3) in shots on goal.
Ollie Hammond had four stops for the Nor'easters, while Bermudez finished with a pair for the hosts.
UNE is back in action Saturday (Oct. 12) with a 3 p.m. home match versus Conference of New England foe Roger Williams University.
