School records fall in Homecoming rout of Dean

Statistics

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- The University of New England football team established school records for points scored and winning margin as the Nor'easters blanked Dean College, 68-0, before a Homecoming crowd of 2,142 on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 5) at Blue Storm Stadium.

UNE (2-3) jumped on the visiting Bulldogs (0-4) from the outset and never relented. The Nor'easters hung up 22 points in the first quarter and 23 in the second to take a commanding 45-0 lead into halftime.

Damien Jones sandwiched a pair of first-quarter touchdowns around one from Shane LaPorte to help fuel the Nor'easters' strong start. Jones opened the scoring with a five-yard reception on a pass from Chris Lang with just 5:41 elapsed (Watch). After Spencer LaBrecque rushed for a two-point conversion, LaPorte contributed his first rushing touchdown of the day off a direct snap (Watch). Jones then hit pay dirt on an 11-yard rush inside the two-minute mark to give UNE a 22-0 lead heading into the second quarter (Watch).

LaPorte's one-yard run off a direct snap with 9:19 left in the second pushed UNE's cushion to 29-0 (Watch), before a special teams safety made the score 31-0. With Dean pinned deep in its own end of the field, Tommy McGuire rushed in from the right side to stuff the punt attempt and knock the ball out of the end zone (Watch).

Lang would toss a pair of touchdown passes to close the first half and give the hosts a 45-0 lead. The first was a 21-yard catch-and-run to Nathan Delgado (Watch), and the second was a strike to Jakob Rivers that covered 26 yards (Watch).

Will Stafford II scored his first touchdown in a UNE uniform with 10:06 remaining in the third quarter (Watch) before Anthony Lacaprucia completed the scoring in the frame with a 26-yard field goal.

The Nor'easters finished the game with a pair of touchdowns in the fourth quarter, the first coming when Will Ledbetter found Ty LeBlond down the middle for a 9-yard reception (Watch). The closing tally came on a two-yard rush up the middle by Jeremy Barton, Jr. (Watch).

Lang was a tidy 14 of 18 through the air and finished with 210 yards to go with his three touchdowns. Barton posted a team-high 46 rushing yards, with Jones close behind with 40. John Germano finished with a team-best 47 receiving yards as 10 different UNE players caught a pass. The Nor'easters finished the day with 433 total yards on offense.

Not to be overshadowed by all of the scoring, the Nor'easters' defense was dominant, limiting the Bulldogs to just 56 yards of total offense and four first downs. Levens Louis led all UNE players with five tackles. Bobby Cielakie and Bernie Mulcahy each had a quarterback sack.

The Nor'easters have a bye week upcoming before opening up Conference of New England play Oct. 19 when they host nationally-ranked Endicott College. Kickoff time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
