UNE finds late equalizer in 1-1 tie at Gordon

WENHAM, Mass. – Sam Higgins' goal in the 77th minute of Saturday afternoon's Conference of New England matchup at Gordon helped the University of New England men's soccer team tie the Fighting Scots, 1-1.
 
Gordon (6-5-6, 2-2-3 CNE) gained a 1-0 lead in the 12th minute with Alex Diaz's goal, and that score would hold until Higgins' netted the equalizer with fewer than 14 minutes remaining in the game, heading home Mattie Calver's free kick.
 
Total shots sided with the Fighting Scots by a margin of 13-5, but shots on goal were even at four apiece. Triston O'Hagan made four saves, including one in the 81st minute to preserve the 1-1 tie, for the Nor'easters (5-7-5, 2-4-1 CNE) during his second consecutive start.
 
Saturday's game marked the second straight tie between UNE and Gordon, with the two conference foes having battled to a scoreless draw during in 2023.
 
The Nor'easters are set to conclude the regular season on Tuesday, Oct. 29, hosting Endicott at 7 p.m.
