#13 UNE prevails over Williams; Swallow's career win 200

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Garrett Devine scored a pair of goals to help lead No. 13 University of New England to a 4-1 triumph over Williams College in non-conference men's ice hockey action Tuesday afternoon (Jan. 2) at the Harold Alfond Forum.

The win was the 200th career victory for Kevin Swallow. Now in his 12th season as a head coach, Swallow earned his 145th win at the head of the UNE bench. Prior to coming to Biddeford, he amassed 55 victories at Nichols College. To this point Swallow has put together a career winning percentage of .718 (200-71-25).

UNE (9-2-2) opened the scoring midway through the first period when Dawson Ellis went top shelf from the left doorstep. Noah Szretter and Nathan Chickering assisted on the goal.

The Ephs (2-8-0) answered back less than two minutes later on a bad-bounce unassisted goal from Nicholas Rashkovsky.

Devine tallied the eventual game-winner on the power play at 4:14 of the second frame. The graduate student potted home a wrist shot from the slot with assists from Anthony Cinatto and Jacob Pellerin

The Nor'easters would double their lead (3-1) at the 14:52 mark of the middle frame when Ryan Kuzmich notched his team-leading fifth goal of the year. Juraj Elias and Szretter were credited with assists on the scoring play.

Devine tacked on an unassisted short-handed marker at 14:59 of the final period to conclude the scoring.

Goaltender Joe Stanizzi improved his record to 3-0-0 with a 28-save performance. Stanizzi recorded 12 stops in the third period to help preserve the win. UNE blocked a total of 15 shots, with Kevin O'Keefe finishing with a team-best three.

Cal Sandquist totaled 28 saves for Williams, which held a slim 29-27 advantage in shots on goal.

Winners of four consecutive starts, the Nor'easters will look to extend their streak next Tuesday (Jan. 9) when they host Colby College at 7:00 p.m.
