BIDDEFORD, Maine –
Bella Reil scored a goal and added an assist as the University of New England women's soccer team picked up a 2-1 win over Gordon College to open Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play on Friday night at Blue Storm Stadium.
The Nor'easters (3-0-2, 1-0-0 CCC) got on the board first in the 25
th minute as
Tori Keyes blasted home a goal from close range.
Emily Martin and Reil assisted on the score that put UNE ahead 1-0 [
Watch]. Reil found the back of the net on a free kick from just outside the box in the 41st minute as UNE led 2-0 at halftime. [

Eowyn Lapp got one back for the Fighting Scots (3-1-0, 0-1-0 CCC) early in the second half as she fought through two UNE defenders to score her fourth goal of the season in the 47
th minute and trim the deficit in half.
UNE was nearly able to extend the lead to 3-1 in the 81
st minute but a strong header from
Hannah Niles off a corner kick was stopped. Lapp had a great chance for Gordon in the closing seconds but
Sydney Gillingham made the save to keep the Nor'easters in front. She finished with six saves on the night.
Emily Bengtson had four saves in the loss for Gordon, which held a 13-12 advantage in shots.
The Nor'easters return to action at home on Tuesday night against Bates at 7:30 p.m.
