STANDISH, Maine –
Lizzie Frattaroli scored twice to help the University of New England women's soccer team earn a 5-1 victory over Saint Joseph's College to open the season on Friday evening.
The teams played close in the first half with UNE holding just a 9-5 edge on shots.
Tori Keyes buried a goal in the 10th minute of the half, off a feed from
Emily Martin, to give the Nor'easters a 1-0 lead at the break.
UNE dominated the second half, adding two more in the first 15 minutes.
Hannah Niles assisted on both, first to Frattaroli in the 53rd and then Martin in the 60th.
After Tatum Hancock put in the loan goal for the Monks at the 66-minute mark, Frattaroli added another in the 83rd minute from Niles and
Bella Reil. Niles is the first Nor'easter since 2016 to tally three assists in a match, which is one shy of the program single-game record.
Ashley Clark put one home to complete the scoring in the final minute, off a pass from
Katie Rokes.
Sydney Gillingham stopped two shots in 62 minutes of work to lead the goalkeepers for UNE, which held a 14-2 advantage in shots during the final period. Carly Downey had five saves on the other end for SJC.
UNE is back in action at home tomorrow against WPI at Blue Storm Stadium at 7 p.m.
