BIDDEFORD, Maine – After a low-scoring first half the University of New England men's lacrosse team rolled to a 13-6 victory against Gordon College in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at Blue Bolt Field on Tuesday.
The Nor'easters (8-8, 2-5 CCC) were led by five goals from
Sam McGregor.
Ryan Hazard added two goals.
Andrew Lawrence dished out five assists in the victory.
Lawrence found
Shea Fogarty at the 5:20 mark of the opening period for the only goal of the first quarter. McGregor scored three times in the second quarter as UNE led 4-1 at halftime.
UNE extended its lead to 7-1 with 8:03 to play in the third after goals by
Finn McCoy,
Joe O'Keefe, and McGregor.
David Wilcox put in his first of the season for the Nor'easters sandwiched between two goals by Gordon's Ryan Stephen Long as the Nor'easter held an 8-3 advantage through three.
The teams traded tallies to start the fourth. Lawrence connected with Hazard for goals twice down the stretch.
Caleb Bowles also put in a fourth-quarter goal.
The Nor'easters dominated on shots 54-31 overall and 34-19 on goal.
Chris Gottlieb had two caused turnovers and four ground balls to go with an assist.
Alex Thoms stopped 13 shots in goal for UNE. Colin Liscomb made 21 saves for the Scots.
UNE closes out the regular season on the road at Salve Regina on Saturday at 12 p.m.
