Wheaton finishes strong to down UNE, 11-7

BIDDEFORD, Maine – The Wheaton College men's lacrosse team scored the final four goals of the game to break a fourth-quarter tie on its way to an 11-7 victory over the University of New England on Saturday afternoon at Blue Bolt Field.
 
Charlie Racine had four goals for the Lyons to lead all scorers. Robert Sullivan scored three times while Charlie Krause and Shane Ross each two goals for Wheaton.
 
Jordan White, Colin Watt, and Andrew Lawrence each had a pair of goals for UNE in the loss. Ryan Hazard also scored once.
 
UNE pulled in front 3-1 after goals by Lawrence to end the first quarter and open the second. Hazard assisted on the second goal with 12:21 to play until half [Watch]. Racine won the ensuing faceoff and scored on his own to bring the Lyons within one. He tied the game with 8:47 to go in the first half.
 
The Nor'easters (0-1) took the lead back on White's first goal of the game with 1:48 remaining, but the lead didn't last as Sullivan scored in the final minute with help from Emmett Edwards to the game 4-4 at halftime.
 
Sullivan scored seven seconds into the third to give Wheaton its first lead of the game. Watt scored and assisted on a man-up goal by White to give the Nor'easters the lead back at 6-5 at the 9:35 mark of the third quarter. Down a man, Racine tied the game back up for Wheaton only 28 seconds later and Krause scored late in the quarter as the Lyons took a 7-6 lead into the fourth.
 
Hazard scored his first goal of the game to start the fourth quarter and knot the game up again, but it would be the last goal for UNE on the day. Ross had two of the Lyons four goals down the stretch.
 
Evan Hazard had 14 saves in net for the Nor'easters. John Drew picked up the victory in the cage with 13 stops for the Lyons.
 
UNE plays its first road contest of the year on Tuesday afternoon at St. Joseph's at 4 p.m.
