STANDISH, Maine – Six points each by
Jordan White and
Colin Watt helped the University of New England men's lacrosse team to a 13-9 victory over Saint Joseph's College on Tuesday afternoon at the SJC Athletic Complex.
White and Watt each had three goals and three assists to lead the offense in the Nor'easters' first victory of the season.
Ryan Hazard and
Shea Fogarty added two goals each.
Andrew Lawrence had a goal and two assists.
After a scoreless first quarter, Lawrence found Watt for a man-up goal at the 10:49 mark of the second. The Monks answered with three straight to take a 3-1 lead with 6:27 to play before half. Watt connected with
Gavin Tanis and White scored off a dish from Lawrence with just five seconds left to make it 3-3 at the half.
White started the second half strong with two goals in the opening 1:45 to give the Nor'easters (1-1) a 5-3 lead. Lawrence and
Finn McCoy extended the advantage to 7-3. Following an unassisted goal by the Monks from Tyler Moscato, UNE rolled of three straight markers to take its largest lead of the day at 10-4 with 4:31 remaining in the third. Watt, Hazard, and Fogarty scored as part of the run.
Eli Arsenault and Noah Tierney-Honan trimmed into the deficit for St. Joseph's as the score stood at 10-6 after three. The Monks added another early in the fourth as Tierney-Honan hit Will Levesque for score in the opening minute.
UNE extended its lead back out to six with 5:28 to go as the same trio; Fogarty, Hazard, and Watt; provided goals. St. Joseph's added two late scores to close the margin.
Shots heavily favored the Monks at 40-25 on the day.
Evan Hazard was stellar in net with 18 saves in the victory. Scott Walsh had six stops for St. Joseph's.
Ben Gowell was 18-for-26 at the faceoff and grabbed a game-high 12 ground balls.
The Nor'easters return home for a matchup with Plymouth State on Friday afternoon at 4 p.m.
