BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Jack Connell tossed in 25 points to lead Wentworth Institute of Technology in an 80-67 result against the University of New England in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's basketball action Wednesday night (Feb. 1) on Coach Beaudry's Court inside the Harold Alfond Forum.
Connell hit 5-of-10 from downtown on the way to his scoring total, and added six assists. Tyler Stewart made 7-for-9 from the floor to register 20 points, and grabbed six boards, while Jack Schaake supplied 10 points. The Leopards (12-8, 7-6 CCC) shot 49 percent from the field, which included outscoring UNE by six from long range (21-15). The visitors also had a nine-point cushion at the charity stripe (17-8).
Winston Bryan had his second-highest scoring output of the year for the Nor'easters (2-18, 0-13), going for 19 points and six rebounds.
Adrian Torres contributed 13 points with three steals, and
Kyle Lombardi tallied nine points.
Ryan Lin corralled a game-best seven rebounds for UNE, which connected at a 45.8 percent clip on field goal tries in the contest.
After the hosts netted the opening basket, Wentworth assumed an 11-6 edge and slowly increased the difference to 10 (30-20, 32-22). The Nor'easters got a Lombardi triple with 4:06 remaining before halftime, however back-to-back three-pointers by Connell bumped the margin to its 1st-half peak (38-25).
