BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Salve Regina University raced out to an early lead and never looked back in a 94-57 result versus the University of New England in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's basketball action at Coach Beaudry's Court inside the Harold Alfond Forum on Saturday afternoon (Feb. 4).
The Seahawks (8-13, 6-8 CCC) hit 10 of their first 17 shots to take a 27-2 advantage less than nine minutes into the contest, with Mikey Spencer accounting for 11 of those points. Play leveled out after that, as the cushion was 53-30 at the half. Salve connected at a 54 percent clip from the floor in the opening period.
Spencer registered game highs of 27 points and 12 rebounds, and Declan Walmsley tossed in another 20 points. Jojo Powers, Clay Brochu, and Ryan McHugh had nine points apiece. Part of a 54-31 edge on the boards was 20 offensive rebounds, which SRU converted into 25 second-chance points.
The Nor'easters (2-19, 0-14) received 13 points from
Jayden Thornton, and nine from both
Sam McElliott and
Zach Federico. Federico shared the team high of five rebounds with
Adrian Torres, who also totaled eight points, two steals, and two blocks.
UNE heads for Gordon College on Tuesday.
