SPRINGFIELD, Mass -- Junior Jake Harrison came one assist shy of recording a triple-double, finishing with 30 points, 13 rebounds and nine assists to lead the Western New England University men's basketball team to a 93-75 win over the University of New England, in a Commonwealth Coast Conference game Saturday afternoon (Dec. 2) at the Anthony Caprio Alumni Healthful Living Center.
Harrison converted 12 of 15 field goal attempts and was 5-for-7 at the free throw line while also contributing five blocked shots and five steals in 30 minutes of court time. Gavin Greene scored 17 points and Mike Resnick 11 for the Golden Bears (5-3, 1-1 CCC), who shot a staggering 61.3 percent (38 of 62) from the floor.
Adam Lux made 9 of 14 field goal attempts to tally a team-best 20 points for UNE (5-4, 0-2).
Jayden Thornton and
Jimmy Hulland netted 14 points apiece, while
Adrian Torres chipped in with 11 points, seven assists, three steals and two blocked shots.
Western New England opened the game with the first six points and would never trail. The Golden Bears made 7 of 16 shots from beyond the arc to help build a 45-33 advantage heading into intermission.
WNE's torrid shooting got even better in the second frame, as the hosts knocked down 20 of their 31 field goal attempts (64.5 percent) after the break.
For the game the Golden Bears held a 42-33 advantage on the glass and scored 58 of their 93 points from the paint.
UNE will conclude first-semester play Tuesday (Dec. 5) when Gordon College comes to Biddeford for a 7:30 p.m. conference tilt.
