Gulls shoot past UNE, 107-91

Statistics

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Endicott College closed the 1st half on a 25-10 run and picked up a 107-91 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's basketball decision against the University of New England on Wednesday night (Nov. 29) at Coach Beaudry's Court inside the Harold Alfond Forum.

The Gulls (3-3, 1-0 CCC) were led by Jalen Echevarria, who tossed in 26 points with the help of 5-for-9 accuracy behind the arc, and added eight assists. Mark Barrett made 8-of-12 field goals on the way to 17 points, while registering seven boards and three blocks. EC had a 55-42 advantage on the glass, thanks in large part to Elijah Kinney, who corralled 18 rebounds to pair with 14 points. Matt Boen contributed 13 points and seven assists.

Ty Vitko (12 points) and Liam Dunfee (10) rounded out those reaching double figures in scoring for Endicott, which shot 47 percent from the floor in the match to guide a 56-40 scoring margin in the paint. The Gulls also logged a 21-7 edge in fastbreak points.

For UNE (5-3, 0-1), Kyle Lombardi hardly missed en route to a career-high 31 points -- 17 greater than his previous best. The junior forward topped all players in scoring by knocking down 8-of-11 field goals, 4-of-5 three-pointers, and converting all 11 of his free throw attempts.

Adam Lux provided 18 points with six rebounds for the hosts against his former squad, while Zach Boulay and Adrian Torres notched 14 points apiece. Torres accounted for 12 of his points following intermission, prior to fouling out.

The contest had nine lead changes over the initial 13 minutes. Two possessions after Lombardi sank three freebies to give the Nor'easters a 34-33 edge, Echevarria nailed a trey to spark a 12-0 spurt in 90 seconds that vaulted the Gulls in front (45-34). UNE sliced into the deficit a bit (47-42), but an 11-2 finish to the period by EC made it 58-44 at the break.

The Nor'easters managed to trim the gap down to eight on four occasions in the middle of the 2nd frame (between 75-67 and 83-75), but Boen restored the double-digit spread for good with back-to-back hoops. An Echevarria triple with 6:13 to go made it 92-77.

UNE will look to bounce back on Saturday at Western New England University.
