BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Andrew Kurapov netted his second goal of the game with 43 seconds gone in overtime to give No.12 Endicott College a 3-2 win against No.9 University of New England in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's ice hockey matchup Friday night (Nov. 10) at the Harold Alfond Forum.
Kurapov navigated the length of the ice in the 3-on-3 bonus session and his first look forced a kick save by
Billy Girard IV. It also left a UNE defender hobbled and scrambling to stay near the play, and, after Zach Mazur tracked down the long rebound, the deciding goal from inside the right dot glanced off a stick flat on the surface and popped over all the UNE players into the goal.
The Gulls (2-2, 2-1 CCC) gain two points towards the league standings, while the Nor'easters (2-2, 2-1) get one. The all-time series between two programs that accounted for half of the final four in the national championship last season now has a slight edge for EC (8-7-4).
UNE tied things up in dramatic fashion late in the 3rd period. Endicott was whistled for a penalty with 1:39 to go in regulation, and the hosts also decided to pull Girard for an extra skater. It took 21 seconds for the Nor'easters to solve the 6-on-4, as
Jayden Price stuffed in his own rebound at the right post.
Juraj Elias and
Chip Hamlett assisted on the equalizer.

Through 20 minutes of action, UNE held a 1-0 lead on a score by
Tyler Healey 11:38 into the match, after
Jacob Pellerin sent him streaking up the right wall. Healey sliced into the middle for his first career tally.

Jack Ring got the visitors back even at 1-1 before the midway mark of the 2nd, stuffing a clearing attempt along the right boards, chipping it to himself over a stick into the middle, and wristing one into the upper right side.
Kurapov's first of the evening came on the power play with 8:15 remaining in the 3rd frame, on a wrist shot through a screen. Mazur and James McIsaac helped setup the goal that made it 2-1.
Ryan Wilson turned in 34 saves to back the result for the Gulls, while Girard ended with 30 stops on the UNE side. Both teams had double digits in blocked shots, as well.
Round two of the weekend series will start Saturday at 4 p.m. down in Beverly.
