#9 UNE, #12 Gulls skate to 3-3 tie; Nor'easters take shootout

BEVERLY, Mass. -- Jayden Price evened the game early in the third period, as No.9 University of New England and No.12 Endicott College skated to a 3-3 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's ice hockey tie Saturday afternoon (Nov. 11) at Raymond J. Bourque Arena. UNE picked up an extra point in the CCC standings when Anthony Sciucco registered the lone successful attempt of the shootout.

For the second time in as many days, more than 60 minutes of hockey was needed for the end result between the two nationally-ranked programs. UNE got on the scoreboard first when junior transfer Dylan Schuett recorded his first goal in a Nor'easter uniform. Schuett's tally at 14:01 of the first was assisted by David Wilcox and Jacob Pellerin.

The Gulls evened the score 2:17 into the second stanza on a power-play goal by Michael Casey. The two squads then traded goals just 28 seconds apart midway through the period. Logan DiScanio, assisted by Garrett Devine and Dawson Ellis, put the Nor'easters back on top before John Goldowski knotted the score at 2-2 to complete the second-period scoring.

Endicott grabbed its first lead of the contest 4:55 into the third, thanks to Andrew Kurapov's team-leading third goal of the year. Price responded with the equalizer less than a minute later, and the teams were unable find the cage again the remainder of regulation, as well as the five-minute overtime period.

Each squad was unable to convert in the first three rounds of the shootout before Sciucco was successful. The Gulls came up empty in its half of Round 4, sending UNE home with two points.

Shots were nearly identical, with UNE holding a razor thin 38-37 advantage. Billy Girard IV had 34 saves for the Nor'easters (2-2-1, 2-1-1 CCC), while Atticus Kelly recorded 35 for Endicott (2-2-1, 2-1-1).

UNE returns to action next Friday with a 5:00 p.m. road contest versus Suffolk University.
