BANGOR, Maine – The University of New England women's soccer team picked up a 3-1 victory over Husson University in non-conference action at John P. Boucher Field on Wednesday evening. The Nor'easters improve to 5-2-3 on the season while the Eagles drop to 6-4-1 overall.
Both teams had chances early but neither could break through. In the 23
rd minute
Emily Martin struck first for UNE with help from
Lizzie Frattaroli to put the Nor'easters in front.
Tori Keyes added her team-leading sixth goal of the year in the 36
th minute.
Bella Reil provided an assist on the tally that put UNE ahead 2-0 at halftime.
Reil found the back of the net for a goal of her own early in the second half as the Nor'easters extended their lead to 3-0 in the 50
th minute. Natalie Aviolla answered for the Eagles just over three minutes later, but the hosts were never able to get closer.
Sydney Gillingham started in goal for UNE and made one save in 33:02 of action.
Anna Flaherty and
Ariel Martin also saw time in net for the Nor'easters. Madison Weigler had two stops in goal for Husson.
Shots favored UNE 15-11 overall and 5-2 on net.
The Nor'easters return home on Saturday against the University of Hartford at 4 p.m.
