BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Endicott College and the University of New England traded goals early in the second half for the only scoring of the match, as the two rivals played to a 1-1 tie in the Commonwealth Coast Conference women's soccer regular-season finale Tuesday evening (Oct. 24) at Hempstead Stadium.
After a scoreless first half, the host Gulls got on to the scoreboard just 1:04 into the frame when Riley Rischetelli sent a shot from the top right corner of the box barely inside the far post.
UNE responded two minutes later.
Tori Keyes controlled a forward service down the left side, took a few touches and lofted a left-footed shot from an extreme angle into the far right side of the net.
Neither team was able to notch the game-winner despite each having a few quality chances in what was a wide-open second half. Endicott had one final opportunity to walk away victorious, but Ella Morgan's shot with 0:25 remaining sailed just wide left.
For the match the Nor'easters led in shots (21-12) and corner kicks (7-6).
Rosalini Caliri had seven saves for the Gulls, while
Sydney Gillingham was credited with five for UNE.
Both teams are headed to the Commonwealth Coast Conference Championship, which will get underway this Saturday (Oct. 28) with three quarterfinal-round games. Endicott (10-4-4, 4-0-4 CCC) will be seeded third, and the Nor'easters fifth (7-4-5, 4-2-2). Official tournament pairings and schedule will be released by the CCC Office either later tonight or tomorrow morning.
