FRAMINGHAM, Mass. -- The University of New England women's volleyball team operated at a .304 attack rate and served up 15 aces on the way to a 3-0 victory (25-21, 25-15, 25-10) over Fitchburg State University in a neutral match hosted by Framingham State University at Logan Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 21).
UNE's offense had balance at the top, with nine kills from
Ellijah Hanley and eight each from
Viktoria Pavlyuk and
Kendall Gallaugher. Gallaugher had no errors in 10 swings for a hitting clip of .800, the highest conversion percentage for any Nor'easter with at least 10 attempts in a contest this season.
Hanley also tallied a match-high seven digs, and accounted for three aces.
Kailyn Reilly was responsible for five of the service winners.
Courtney McDermott framed 23 assists for the Nor'easters (11-6).
On the other side of the net for the Falcons (7-12), Samantha Mirra had eight kills and six digs. Fitchburg was limited to a .016 attacking efficiency by UNE.
Things were close in the 1st set until a 5-1 spurt by the Nor'easters made for a 19-16 spread. Hanley notched three of those points to secure the lead for good.
UNE turned in an 11-3 run to clinch the 2nd, from 14-12, with eight positive points out of Reilly (3), Hanley (2), McDermott (2 kills), and Gallaugher.
The Nor'easters were in full control in the 3rd, posting 18 points that included six aces. Pavlyuk (2 kills, 2 aces), Gallaugher (4 kills), and
Hannah Nowell (2 kills, 1 block) accounted for the majority of the scoring.
