Curry pulls away late to top Nor'easters

MILTON, Mass. -- Down 1-0 in the early stages, Curry College scored three consecutive goals and would never trail again on its way to a 7-2 Commonwealth Coast Conference men's soccer win over the University of New England Saturday evening (Oct. 21) at Walter M. Katz Field.

Chris Caiazzo -- assisted by Alex Woodworth -- gave the Nor'easters a 1-0 lead in the 11th minute to open the high-scoring affair. The Colonels would score twice late in the first frame and grab another early in the second to establish a 3-1 advantage. Lucas Drons, Ray Weinstein and Naytik Vora found the back of the net to give Curry the lead for good.

UNE pulled within one (3-2) in the 63rd minute when Sam Higgins headed home a corner kick from Luke Gould for his first collegiate goal.

From there, it was all Curry. Giovanni Martins scored twice, and Ryan Koster and Ean McGonigle each had a goal, as the Colonels tallied four times in an 11-minute span to secure the win.

Curry (7-6-3, 2-3-2 CCC) held a 27-10 margin in shots for the evening. Goalkeeper Brendan Cunningham needed just two saves for record the victory.

Sean McCarthy and Sean MacDonald split time in goal for the Nor'easters. The duo was responsible for six stops.

UNE (1-11-5, 0-5-2) will conclude its season Tuesday (Oct. 24) with a 4:00 p.m. contest at Endicott College.
