BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Three 2nd-half goals propelled the University of New England women's soccer team to a 3-1 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) triumph over Wentworth Institute of Technology on Tuesday afternoon (Oct. 10) at Blue Storm Stadium.
The Nor'easters move to 6-3-3 overall and 3-1-0 in league play with the result, while the Leopards drop to 2-8-1 (0-5-0 CCC).
After a scoreless opening 45 minutes in the rain, during which the hosts had an 11-3 advantage in shot attempts, the sun came out and
Sydney Balotin got UNE on the scoreboard first in the 52nd minute. After throwing it into
Morgan Diefenbach and getting it right back on the left wing, Balotin bent a right-footed ball into the box that glanced off a defender past the keeper

UNE doubled the margin in the 61st minute when
Emily Martin converted a penalty kick, tucking the try into the lower left corner

Lizzie Frattaroli drew the foul in the zone to earn the PK.
But less than six minutes later, a penalty kick on the other end from Jordan Dahan put the visitors in business by trimming the gap back to one (2-1).
While Wentworth had more threatening moments in the 2nd period, the Nor'easters were the only side putting chances on goal. The hosts got some insurance in the 79th minute from
Tori Keyes, who tracked down a WIT clearance in almost the same spot as Balotin, took a couple of dribbles to the top corner of the box, and curled one inside the far post

Total shots ended up at 19-9 in the contest, but on-target favored UNE by a 13-2 margin.
Sydney Gillingham made one 1st-half stop in the victory; her counterpart for the Leopards, Shyla Kulesza had 10 saves.
The Nor'easters head for Roger Williams University on Saturday.
