Statistics

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- The University of New England struck for a trio of 3rd-period goals to separate from Wentworth Institute of Technology and notch a 4-1 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's ice hockey victory on Friday night (Jan. 27) at the Harold Alfond Forum.

Winners in their last three outings, the Nor'easters improve to 12-5-1 overall and 10-4-0 in league action.

Things were even (1-1) entering the final 20 minutes but Anthony Sciucco quickly changed that after just 80 seconds, unleashing a blast from between the circles. Jared Christy registered his first of three assists on the play, which Kevin O'Keefe started deep in the defensive zone. [Watch]

Shortly after the Leopards killed off a penalty near the midway mark of the 3rd, the visitors were charged with another and UNE made good on the power-play advantage with 7:41 to go. Crisp passing entering the zone between Ryan Kuzmich, Jake Fuss, Chip Hamlett, and Christy ended up with Kuzmich tapping it in on the doorstep for a 3-1 lead [Watch]. Then, 90 seconds later, Christy forced a turnover in the neutral zone and issued a no-look feed under pressure to a wide-open Fuss, who faked a forehand and put roofed a backhand over the netminder [Watch].

Goalie Joe Stanizzi picked up his second result in as many starts for the Nor'easters, turning away 23 shots. Jack McGovern made 24 saves on the other end for Wentworth (4-13-1, 2-11-1 CCC).

Following a scoreless 1st period, the hosts got on the board with 1:14 gone in the 2nd, as Mike Tersoni intercepted a WIT clearing attempt and immediately hit Daniel Winslow near the right post for his team-leading 11th goal of the season [Watch]. That 1-0 cushion lasted about 12 minutes, when Josh Faussett scored for the Leopards with assists from Matt Smoliga and George Weiner.

The squads will skate for the third and final time this season on Saturday in Everett, Mass.
