BOSTON -- Wentworth Institute of Technology made 13-of-32 three-point attempts and outscored the University of New England by 27 from behind the arc in an 87-66 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's basketball result at Tansey Gymnasium on Tuesday night (Jan. 10).
Five players reached double figures for the balanced Leopards offense, which operated at just over 50 percent efficiency on field-goal tries during the game. Jack Schaake had 13 points and eight rebounds to lead WIT (7-6, 3-4 CCC), which posted a 49-22 advantage on the glass and overcame 22 turnovers.
Sam Swift drained 4-of-8 from deep to tally 12 points for the hosts, while Conor Rubenskas and Thomas Hacker contributed 12 and 11, respectively, off the bench. Jack Connell went for 10 points and five assists.
For the Nor'easters, rookie
Adrian Torres equaled a personal high of 20 points to lead all scorers, and handed out six assists.
Sam McElliott supplied a season-best 13 points in support, and picked up six steals.
Connor Curcio did not miss in four shots and tacked on 10 points in his most productive outing of the year, while
Ryan Lin closed with eight points and five boards.
Both sides got off to a slow start, but Wentworth did just enough to gain a 9-2 cushion 6:24 into the match. The visitors just couldn't put a dent in that deficit for the rest of the half, and a last-second triple by Russell Dolabany set the intermission difference at 39-26. It remained in double digits during the 2nd period.
UNE (2-12, 0-7 CCC) will travel to Salve Regina University on Saturday.
