BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Lilli Stogner and Nora Ryan each notched 18 points to lead Plymouth State University over the University of New England by a 3-1 margin (22-25, 25-17, 25-13, 25-9) in women's volleyball action Saturday evening (Sep. 17) on Coach Beaudry's Court inside the Harold Alfond Forum.
Ryan dialed up a match-best 16 kills with a 0.429 hitting percentage, while Stogner accounted for 15 winners to go with 20 digs. The Panthers (6-2) received 46 assists out of Riley McDonough, and on defense, Makayla Marucci and Imalay Rodriguez Martinez went for 26 and 14 digs, respectively.
Playing at home for the first time this season, the Nor'easters (1-7) were paced by 13 kills from
Viktoria Pavlyuk, who hit at a 0.323 clip.
Lauren Davenport had eight kills and
Mary Haley another six, as the attack was guided by 23
Addie Miller assists. On the back line,
Morgan Lynch picked up 22 digs and
Griffin Chaffin-Quiray saved 17 more.
Trailing by six (14-8) in the 1st set, UNE rattled off an 11-1 run to surge out in front. Pavlyuk knocked down three winners during the span. In the 2nd, six unanswered by the hosts -- including two kills from Haley -- negated a quick PSU start to level things at 12-all, but a string of six UNE errors down the stretch gave the Panthers enough to tie the match.
It was 8-8 in the 3rd until 11 in-a-row vaulted the visitors ahead. Ryan had a couple of her six 3rd-set kills in the run, and Marucci touched down two service aces. Another sizable stretch in the 4th put Plymouth State over the top.
The Nor'easters are set to begin Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play on Tuesday at Wentworth Institute of Technology.
