BIDDEFORD, Maine – The University of New England women's soccer team got off to a great start to the season with a 4-0 victory over Saint Joseph's College of Maine on Thursday evening at Hazard Field.
The Nor'easters scored three of their goals in the first half beginning with a tally by
Lauren Beitler just 2:14 into play.
Tori Keyes crossed a long pass into Beitler who buried a shot from the top of the box to give UNE an early lead. [

Emily Martin for the score off a pass from
Bella Reil in the 20th minute [

Marie Hoehner headed home a corner from the foot of Reil in the 27th minute to put UNE in front 3-0 at halftime. [

Karley Belisle knocked in her first career goal in the 82nd minutes with help from
Olivia King and
Brooke Pierotti. [

Great goalkeeping helped the Nor'easters keep the Monks off the board.
Sydney Gillingham had three saves in the first half.
Ariel Martin stopped seven shots, including two diving saves to preserve the shutout. [

St. Joe's outshot UNE in the loss, 19-13 overall and 10-9. Carly Downey made five saves for the Monks.
The Nor'easters return to action against Springfield College on Saturday at 2 p.m. in Westfield, Mass.
